Normally, when West Rusk and Waskom meet on a football field, a lot has been riding on the game.

It was still a lot on Friday night -- a regular season win at stake -- but not a district championship or a playoff win as in years past.

But the Raiders got the last laugh on Friday at home at Bruce Bradshaw Stadium, handing Kilgore native Whitney Keeling and his Waskom Wildcats a 35-19 loss. First-year West Rusk coach Nick Harrison is now 2-0, as the Raiders have another home game next week against Harmony.

Quarterback Jaylon Shelton had a nice night for West Rusk, leading the Raiders in rushing with 150 yards and two touchdowns. Tyrell Moore also scored twice and finished with 135 yards.

Josh Reeves scored twice for Waskom, who drops to 1-1 with the loss.

Shelton completed 3-of-4 pass attempts for 36 yards.
