Football is literally just around the corner, and activities surrounding Kilgore High School football begin in full-force on Monday, Aug. 5.

In addition to practice starting that afternoon, that’s also the day that people who were season ticket-holders last year can renew their season ticket packages. They’re $35 each for five home games. Kilgore starts the season at Nacogdoches on Friday, Aug. 30, and the first home game is Sept. 13 against Pine Tree.

Other home games for the Bulldogs are against Texas High (Sept. 20), Chapel Hill (Oct. 11), Van (Oct. 25) and Carthage (Nov. 8, the end of the regular season). Kilgore’s homecoming is the Texas High game.

Season tickets not picked up the week of Aug. 5-9 will go on sale to the general public the following week (Aug. 12). The athletic office is now in the maintenance and transportation building located near the tennis courts along Longview Street.

Of course, tickets are also available at the gate before each game.

Kilgore’s first day in pads in practice will be Friday, Aug. 9, and the annual watermelon fest will be the following Thursday, Aug. 15, outside the Mitchell Field House on campus.

The Ragin’ Red hosts Gilmer for the first scrimmage on Friday, Aug. 16, here at R.E. St. John Memorial Stadium, starting at 6 p.m. with the freshmen and junior varsity.

Kilgore visits Kaufman the following Friday, Aug. 23, for a second preseason scrimmage, and then opens the season at Nac Aug. 30.

Read a preview of KHS, Kilgore College and all the high schools in the Kilgore News Herald’s coverage area in our annual football section that will be a part of the print edition on Wednesday, Aug. 28.
