High school games weren’t the only ones affected by the ice and snow, and now Kilgore College basketball fans are going to have to wait just a little longer for the KC basketball teams to resume series with their biggest rival.

Both KC teams had been scheduled to host the Tyler Junior College basketball teams today, but that has been moved, this time not by those schools’ athletic programs, but by the Region XIV Conference.

“Due to severe weather conditions and unprecedented issues that we are dealing with during this winter storm, the Region XIV Athletic Conference Executive Council is canceling all conference games through Sunday, Feb. 21,” reads a prepared statement. “…Rescheduling of contests will be determined at a later date by each school.”

That puts coach Brian Hoberecht’s Rangers in a particularly-different situation. The Rangers already had to postpone a pair of games due to COVID-19 protocol, and then had to postpone Wednesday’s trip to Bossier Parish due to the ice and snow. The Rangers haven’t played in an actual game since Feb. 6, and won’t until this coming Wednesday, a road game at Victoria College, a scheduled 4 p.m. tip-off.

The Rangers are 4-2 on the season, and are back home next Saturday, Feb. 27, against Trinity Valley.

Coach Addie Lees’ Lady Rangers come off an 85-65 win at home over Coastal Bend last Saturday, and have won three straight games. They’re 4-4 overall, and 3-1 in conference.

Since there are no games against TJC today, that means the Lady Rangers also will be off until Wednesday, when they’re scheduled to play at Trinity Valley in Athens, a 5:30 p.m. start. KC is also on the road next Saturday, at Paris.

KC softball games this weekend have also been postponed. The Rangers’ games against Brenham that had been scheduled in Blinn for this weekend will now be Feb. 27 at Blinn, at a 1 p.m. start. Also, the KC softball games that had been scheduled for Monday at Galveston College have been rescheduled for March 7 at Galveston, also at 1 p.m. and 3 p.m.

Right now, coach Trish Robinson’s Rangers are 2-3-1, with both of their wins having came at home, here at the Ballpark at KC Commons, just off Houston Street at the site of the former Kilgore Heights building.

KC’s next games are here at the ballpark on Wednesday, a 1 p.m. / 3 p.m. doubleheader against Weatherford College. They’ll also be home next Friday, Feb. 26, against Western Texas College, also at 1 and 3.

KC opened the season against Weatherford, but lost both games of the doubleheader (5-0, 8-0). The Rangers have yet to play a conference game.
