The Kilgore High School tennis team is advancing to the University Interscholastic League’s regional round in Grapevine on Thursday.
Kilgore pulled off the feat with a win over Crandall on Monday at Van High School. Coach Jason Maroney’s Bulldogs will play either Argyle or Whitesboro on Thursday morning at Grapevine at 8:30. Those will be the regional semifinals. The finals and the third-place matches will also be played this week at Grapevine.
The UIL’s team tennis state tournament is next Thursday, at Texas A&M University in College Station.
For boys singles against Crandall, KHS got four wins in six matchups. Jack Tyra, Kalen Ray, Kelton Kelley, and Chase Borders all won; Hunter Wilcox and Bryce Borders came up just a bit short. But all of Kilgore’s girls singles won – Cheyanne Jones, Mary Bess Mercer, Madalynn Parrymore, Avery LeMaire, Estrella Chavarria, and Samantha Linkinhoker.
The Bulldogs’ girls doubles teams won one of its three matches (Parrymore and Chavarria) and Kilgore’s boys doubles teams won two of three (Ray and Kelley, and Tyra and Chase Borders). Wilcox and Jones teamed to win the mixed doubles match between the schools.
