Leverett’s Chapel went into the UIL’s Class 1A, or six-man, football playoffs on Thursday night in Mabank with the goal of playing David to Avalon’s Goliath.
Unfortunately for the Lions, this time, Goliath got the win.
Avalon, unbeaten and likely one of the favorites to win a UIL state six-man championship, ended Leverett’s Chapel’s 2019 season on Thursday night with a 51-12 win. Avalon moves to 11-0 on the year, and the Lions finish up with a very-good 7-2 record, just their second loss of the season (Union Hill, a district rival, was their first).
Mikey Dennis caught Leverett’s Chapel’s first touchdown of the night, from Dawson Blear, and then he caught another, this one from Alexis Chavez. Kicks after touchdowns count for two points in Texas six-man, but LC wasn’t able to convert.
Avalon only threw for one touchdown and 100 yards, but the Eagles ran for 269 yards and six scores. Miguel Padron, a senior, had 246 of them, and five touchdowns.
LC had five turnovers: three fumbles and two interceptions.
