Sabine volleyball won again Friday, but stood pat in the state rankings, and Kilgore stepped out of district for a makeup game against a much-bigger school – and won.

Coach Madeline Harris’s Lady Bulldogs visited Tyler (formerly John Tyler) High School Friday afternoon for a non-district game against the Lady Lions and impressed, beating Tyler in a 25-10, 25-13, 25-23 sweep. Kilgore mounted a comeback in that third and final set, trailing by almost double digits before rallying for the win.

The Lady Bulldogs, who have won three of their last four, were 3-3 in District 16-4A headed to Spring Hill Tuesday night for a key district matchup. Lindale (ranked second in the state in Class 4A in the Texas Girls Coaches Association poll), Bullard (ranked 18th) and Spring Hill are all in front of KHS in the district standings right now. Kilgore is in fourth currently, occupying that final playoff spot with Henderson giving chase.

Against Tyler, Miah Thomas had 10 kills, three blocks and three aces. Alexis T. Anderson had three kills, three blocks and two aces. A’viana McIntyre had two kills; Skye Cotton had four, and two aces; Sha’Destiny Chism had five kills; and Ashton Vallery had a kill and an ace.

Sabine: White Oak won a set from the Lady Cardinals on Friday, but only one set, and Sabine notched its 18th win of the year.

The Lady Cards won set one, 25-23, lost the second set, 21-25, and then won back-to-back sets of 25-20, 25-23 to seal the deal over the Lady Necks. Sabine, now 18-1 on the season with only the one loss (to Beckville), was fourth in the state 3A poll last week and remained so this week.

Sabine is 7-0 in District 15-3A.

Aubree McCann had a “wow” night, with 22 kills, 21 digs and eight blocks for SHS. Maddie Furrh had 14 kills, 18 digs and three blocks. Ryanne Stuart had five kills and two digs, and Sierrah Richter had five kills, seven digs and 37 assists.

Also for Sabine, Cale Brown had four kills and four digs; Ally Gresham had 14 digs and two aces; Ryleigh Burleson had eight digs; Caitlin Bates had five; and Mia Freeman had a block.

Sabine was to play at Ore City after the print deadline for this edition of the News Herald, and will host Gladewater on Friday, a 4:30 p.m. varsity start with junior varsity and freshmen to follow.
