It’s been a good start so far to a shortened fall season for the Kilgore College softball team, and for interim coach Trish Robinson.

Robinson and the Rangers are now 4-0 after beating two opponents here Saturday, at the Ballpark at KC Commons, located off Houston Street at the site of the former Kilgore Heights school campus.

Kilgore beat a pair of teams, the Athletics (7-0), and Marucci Elite Bois (18-2).

The Rangers were to play again Tuesday, after the deadline for this edition of the News Herald, at home against Hill College. They’ll be back in action on Saturday, Oct. 10 at home in a round-robin tournament: at 11 a.m. against the 18-U Gold, and at 3 p.m. against Pro Form Elite 18-U/Smith. There is a game in between.

Typically, the fall season is pretty much a tune-up for spring, when the Rangers play an extended schedule that includes Region XIV Conference teams.

Against the Athletics, KC got a home run from Kylia Huhman, who also had 2 RBI. Hannah Grumbles finished with 2 RBI, as well, on two hits. Makalya Trevino had 2 RBI on a double, and Madalyn Spears also had a double. Calleigh King had an RBI.

On the mound for the Rangers, Natalya Cueves allowed two hits but no runs in three innings, with three strikeouts and no walks. Jenna Lewis had two strikeouts in an inning pitched and Hope Williams also threw an inning, notching a strikeout.

In the second game, Grumbles and Adrienne Lewing each homered. Lewing had a grand slam, two singles as well and finished with 5 RBI. Grumbles also had a single, and also had 5 RBI. Lizzy Torres had a pair of hits and 2 RBI for KC, and Moriah Guerrero and Madalyn Brewer each had a double for the Rangers. Brewer had 2 RBI and Guerrero had one.

On the mound, Huhman got the win, throwing three innings. She struck out five and allowed two runs. Macie McGibney pitched an inning and had a strikeout.
