Willie Gooden

Kilgore College football coach Willie Gooden (above) will lead his team onto the R.E. St. John Memorial Stadium turf today for a 2 p.m. scrimmage against Stafford's North American University.

They're not playing their season right now, as they normally would, due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

But the Kilgore College Rangers do have plans today, and you can be there.

The Rangers will host North American University, a four-year private university in Stafford, at 2 p.m. today here at R.E. St. John Memorial Stadium. It is a preseason scrimmage, but it will give coach Willie Gooden and his staff some idea of where they are, and what they need to do for the season, now to be played in spring.

Fans are welcome for the scrimmage, and the stadium is marked off for appropriate social distancing.

Kilgore College still has quite a while for season prep: the Rangers open a conference-only schedule on March 27, against Blinn. KC has won the Southwest Junior College Football Conference's regular season championship the last two years, most recently in 2019 in Gooden's first season as head coach.
