Meadowbrook boys defend East Texas Ryder Cup championship

The golfers representing Meadowbrook Golf and Event Center have successfully defended the East Texas version of the Ryder Cup, their annual competition against Gilmer Country Club. The two teams of 12 faced off in best ball, individually, and in two-man scramble formats. Kilgore led early, but Gilmer bounced back and tied the event going into Sunday. But the guys from Kilgore bounced back, edged Gilmer 7-5 in individual play, and then in the scramble, Kilgore had 5 ½ points, Gilmer, one. Kilgore finished with 26 ½ points, and Gilmer with 21 ½. Representing Kilgore, pictured above in red, were Jimmy Sawyer, Tom Watson, Chance Fitch, Craig Hughes, Steve Long, John Patterson, Jeff Wheeler, William Berryhill, Ross Taylor, David Falco, Brant Brantley, and Josh Spalding. Congratulations, guys! (Photo courtesy of DAVID CLINE)
