scrimmages next week

Kilgore High School’s volleyball team begins practice Monday, and then begins playing preseason scrimmages later next week.

Coach Madeline Harris’s Lady Bulldogs will show up for their first practice on Monday morning – all players who intend to play volleyball for the Lady ‘Dogs should be at the KHS gym at 7:30 a.m.

Kilgore will have its first scrimmage next Friday at Pine Tree, then play next Saturday at Hallsville, as well.

Kilgore’s season opener is Tuesday, August 9, at Tyler (the former John Tyler). Freshmen play that afternoon at 4:30 p.m., followed by junior varsity and then the 2022 season opener for Kilgore’s varsity.

Kilgore will play in the Tyler Invitational at Tyler Legacy (the former Tyler Lee) on August 11-13, and then the Lady ‘Dogs will play their home opener on Tuesday, August 16 against Harmony.

Practice starts Monday;

ticket sales continue

Several dates are upcoming that are important for Kilgore High School parents and fans to know.

Practice begins Monday, and members of the team have already been contacted by coach Clint Fuller to know when they’re supposed to be on campus for this week.

Season ticket packages are on sale beginning Thursday for $50 each. That’s one ticket for each of Kilgore’s five home games: Pine Tree (Sept. 9), Hallsville (Sept. 16; that’s this year’s homecoming game), Jacksonville (Sept. 30), Henderson (Oct. 14), and the regular season finale against Chapel Hill (Nov. 4).

Season tickets will be sold through August 12. After that date, they will be sold only as individual tickets on a per-game basis.

Here are some other upcoming events to know about.

• Photo day for all Kilgore High School teams (freshmen, junior varsity, varsity) is set for 8 a.m. Saturday, August 6.
• The watermelon fest, where teams are introduced, the Hi-Steppers, band, twirlers and cheerleaders perform and watermelon is served after, all at the Mitchell Field House, is set for Thursday night, August 11, at 7:30 p.m.
• Kilgore’s first scrimmage will be at Center on Friday, August 12.
• The second scrimmage for the Ragin’ Red is scheduled for Thursday, August 18, at Pleasant Grove.
• The Bulldogs open the 2022 season at Carthage on Friday night, August 26.

GOLF

Chamber tournament Sept. 16

The Kilgore Area Chamber of Commerce Golf Classic will be Friday, Sept. 16 at Meadowbrook Golf and Event Center, with a morning tee time of 8 a.m. and an afternoon tee time of 1 p.m.

Tee times are reserved on a first-come, first paid basis. Golf Classic committee members will make every effort to place teams bases at preferred tee times based on availability.

The format is four-person team.

Breakfast will be provided for the morning flight, and lunch will be provided for both. Prizes will be awarded for first, second and third place winners in flights.

The tournament is in its 30th year.
