KHS off; LC finishes second in Fort Worth
Kilgore High School’s volleyball team, off a week since beating Pine Tree last Tuesday, was to play at Longview Tuesday night after the print deadline for this edition of the News Herald. The Lady Bulldogs are 8-10 on the season and have won three straight.
Kilgore hosts East Texas Christian School on Friday, starting with varsity at 4:30 p.m.
Leverett’s Chapel, meanwhile, was quite impressive in the South Hills Spike-A-Delic JV tournament over the weekend in Fort Worth. LC beat South Hills and Alvarado, falling in the championship game, 17-25, 21-25 to Waxahachie Life.
Michelle Jamaica was named to the all-tournament team. Jamaica had eight kills, 53 digs and 10 aces in the event. Lexus Haley had 16 kills, 19 assists, five aces and was 26-of-26 at the line. Ashilia Smith had 14 kills. Katie Hughes had five, as well as 37 digs and three aces.
LC was to play at Gary on Tuesday in a district matchup.

KC hall of fame tourney Sept. 27
Kilgore College’s annual hall of fame golf tournament – held Friday, Sept. 27, the day before the newest class of the KC hall of fame is inducted – will be a 10 a.m. start at Tempest Golf Club, just off Highway 135.
It’s a two-man scramble, a $75-per-person or $150-per-team entry, with proceeds going to the KC athletic department.
That registration includes green fees, a cap, a cart, and breakfast and lunch. Breakfast is served beginning at 9 a.m.

HI-STEPPERS
Clay shoot fundraiser is Oct. 19
The annual sporting clay shoot fundraiser for the Kilgore High School Hi-Steppers is Saturday, Oct. 19, at Prairie Creek Sporting Clays. Registration will begin at 8 a.m., with a safety meeting at 8:20, and a shotgun start at 9:30.
Breakfast and lunch are included with registration.
To sign up, it’s $100 for an individual shooter, or $400, of course, for a team of four. The entry fee includes the tournament play, the meals and a mulligan for each team member.
Sponsorships are still available, too, ranging from $100 for a hole sponsorship to $1,000 for a title sponsorship, which includes two four-person teams and premium signage for the event.
