Sabine, WR-G’water online now

Due to deadline constraints on Friday night, the News Herald has placed its coverage of Sabine-Tatum high school football, as well as West Rusk-Gladewater, on the Kilgore News Herald website,

Kilgore and Overton both had scheduled open dates on Friday night, and Leverett’s Chapel ended up with one, even though they were originally scheduled to visit Christian Heritage – Christian Heritage didn’t have enough healthy players to play, LC coach Andy Bates said, and had to forfeit. By mid week, it was too late for LC to schedule another opponent this week.

Next Friday, Kilgore will host Chapel Hill, the District 10-4A, Division I opener for both, and Sabine will host Winnsboro for homecoming. Overton opens its District 10-2A, Division II schedule at home against Detroit, and West Rusk visits White Oak. Currently, LC is scheduled for an open date, which would be their second Friday off consecutively.

Who’s the greatest? Voice your opinion

Don’t forget to visit and help us settle once and for all who was the best player to ever suit up in East Texas.

You can vote for one player one time per week for the rest of the regular season. Every player is in the running until then, and we’ll cut the list down to the top five vote-getters for a five-week playoff stretch before unveiling The GOAT on Christmas Day.

This is an online contest only, so please don’t email me your votes.

Currently, John Tyler’s Earl Campbell holds a healthy lead in the voting, followed by Edwin Simmons of Hawkins, Patrick Mahomes of Whitehouse, Jackson Sampson of New Diana and Adrian Peterson of Palestine rounding out the top five.

Edd Hargett of Linden-Kildare moved into the mix and is currently tied with Longview’s Bobby Taylor. Y.A. Tittle of Marshall, Jeff Wilson of Elkhart and Kris Boyd of Gilmer round out the top 10.
