WR’s Morton, other local players get TSWA honors

West Rusk High School softball standout Makana Morton has been named to the Texas Sports Writers Association’s first-team all-state team, by member sports writers from across the state.

Also, a pair of Kilgore High School players – Mackenzie Cavanaugh and Kristen Wilson – were named to the Class 4A second and third-team. Cavanaugh was named TSWA 4A second-team all-state as an outfielder, and Wilson to the third-team as a pitcher.

KHS catcher Bailey Downing and first baseman Hailee Jo Lewis were named to 4A’s honorable mention list. In 3A honorable mentions, Allyson Floyd of West Rusk was named at first base, West Rusk’s Brook Floyd at third base, and Sabine’s Sarah Davis at shortstop and Calleigh King as utility player.
