KC road games today, Sunday

Kilgore College’s softball team has had quite a few schedule changes already, even though coach Leslie Messina’s Rangers have only played three games. The weather has played ping-pong, rather than softball, with KC’s schedule.

The Rangers had been scheduled to play at Grayson College on Friday, and at Texas College in Tyler today. Today’s games are still on at TC — it’s a doubleheader, starting at 1 p.m. But Friday’s games were moved to Sunday to help avoid poor field conditions, due to all the wet weather. Sunday’s games at TC are also a 1-3 doubleheader.

The Rangers return home Tuesday for another 1-3 set against Jarvis Christian. KC is 1-2 on the season to date.

Dansby team to be recognized at state

The 1970 Kilgore Dansby school basketball team that reached the state tournament that year will be recognized at this year’s UIL State Basketball Tournament, the weekend of March 12-14 at the Alamodome in San Antonio.

Dansby lost to Jacksonville Douglass that year, at the State PVIL Basketball Tournament, and both teams will be recognized at this year’s state event at the Alamodome.

Robert Brown, the board chairman of the Prairie View Interscholastic League Coaching Association, is asking anyone who played on the Dansby team that year to get in touch with him. Brown can be reached by e-mail at, or at (281)777-0576.
