Youth sign-up today

Registration for Kilgore Youth Football’s fall season last week and continues next week, with a registration date tonight at 6 p.m. at the old KBBA fields on Harris Street.

Registration for tackle football is $125 per player (ages seven through 12); for flag football (five and six-year-olds) its $100 per player; and for cheerleaders it’s $125 per child. Ages for cheer are five to 12 years old, and there will be a cheer meeting prior to the beginning of the season.

Children should bring a copy of their birth certificate with them, and if they played in the past but didn’t play last year, they will still need to bring a copy.

Payment will be accepted via cash or check, and is due at registration.

Kilgore Youth Football plays in the Tri-County Youth Football League, with teams from other communities. Games are played on Saturdays and normally begin at 9 a.m. with the flag football, and begin every hour until the final game (usually juniors) at 2.

BASKETBALL

KC men’s basketball tryouts June 5, July 10

Kilgore College’s men’s basketball program will hold tryouts at 1 p.m. on both June 5 and July 10 at Masters Gymnasium.

Registration is $20, and tryouts are open to any college-age basketball player with collegiate eligibility.

Registration begins at noon.

Water will be on hand, and players should wear rubber-soled basketball shoes, shorts and a T-shirt.

KC coaches, who guided the Rangers to a Region XIV Conference tournament championship and a berth in the NJCAA Men’s National tournament in the 2021 season, will evaluate the skills of each athlete and athletes will be contacted via phone by coaches. No decisions will be made on the day of the tryout.

Hoberecht’s boys basketball camp July 12-15

The 2021 Brian Hoberecht Boys Basketball Camp is set for July 12-15 at Masters Gymnasium, on the Kilgore College campus.

The camp is open to boys ages eight to 17, from 9 a.m. until 3 p.m. each of those days, at a registration cost of $100.

Registration will begin at 8:30 a.m. on the first day of camp (July 12). For the registration fee, campers get a camp ball, T-shirt, awards and lunch each day. Concessions will be open during break times and priced at a low cost.

The camp is directed by KC men’s head basketball coach Brian Hoberecht, and his assistant coaches. The KC men just played in the NJCAA men’s national tournament for the second time in eight years, and Hoberecht just finished his 13th season at KC. The remaining camp staff will be made up of other college coaches and current KC players.

Anyone wishing to go ahead and get in the camp application and fee can do so by going to kilgore.edu, then to the men’s basketball link, and to “summer camp” option. GOLF

Hi-Stepper fundraiser tourney June 18

The 10th annual Kilgore Hi-Stepper golf tournament will be Friday, June 18, at Meadowbrook, with lunch served at noon, and then a 1 p.m. start.

This two-man scramble is a fund-raiser for the Hi-Steppers.

Sponsorships are also available: $1,000 for a title sponsorship (two teams, two carts, premium signage, and four mulligans/ four buy-a-drives); $600 gold sponsorship (one team, a cart, significant signage and two mulligans / two buy-a-drives); and hole sponsorships for $100 each, which is recognition on event signage.

Checks should be made payable to KHS Hi-Stepper Support Group, 1202 Hillvale, Kilgore, Texas 75662.
