Kilgore netters beat Trinity, Gladewater

Trinity School of Texas and Gladewater were the latest two teams to fall to the Kilgore High School tennis team, which is into its fall schedule.

The Bulldogs, coached once again by Jason Maroney and Rhonda Fletcher, are back in action Thursday at Lindale, with junior varsity matchups to be played here at KHS. Kilgore’s varsity is 4-1 as a team: fall tennis is more team-oriented, i.e., you win and lose together, as a team, like any other sport.

Kilgore is 1-0 in district play, that win over Chapel Hill. Kilgore got 14 wins combined over Trinity and Gladewater, losing nine matchups.

In boys singles, the Bulldogs picked up four wins in five tries. Jack Tyra beat Trinity’s Camp Stevens, 6-1; Kalen Ray beat Mitchell, from Gladewater, 6-3; Kelton Kelley lost to Trinity’s Jon M. Gorget, 6-0; Chase Borders won his match against a Gladewater player, 6-2; and Hunter Wilcox did, as well, 6-3.

In a second group of boys singles, Kilgore’s Garrett Lumpkins beat Trinity’s Carson Jennings, 6-2; Kilgore’s Drew Adamez beat one Gladewater player, 6-2, and lost to another, 6-3; Gage Chism lost to a player from Gladewater, 6-0; Eli Arp of KHS lost to Trinity’s Whit Dodson, 6-3; and Kilgore’s Axel Lira beat a Gladewater player, 6-4.

Kilgore’s girls singles didn’t fare as well. Ally Leon got Kilgore’s only win, a 6-1 victory over Trinity’s Mikaela Page. Avery Le Maire, Estrella Chavarria, Samantha Linkinhoker, Connie Chavarria, and Jayden Jones all lost their matchups.

For Kilgore in doubles, Cheyanne Jones and Madalynn Parrymore beat a Trinity team, 6-2; Kelley and Mary Beth Mercer teamed to win their mixed doubles match, 6-1; and all three Kilgore boys doubles teams won. Tyra and Ray beat a Trinity team, 6-3; Borders and Bryce Borders won, 6-2; and Tanner Bonnette and Grayson Cavel won their matchup, 6-4.
