Willow Bend proved to be just a brief bump in the road for Leverett’s Chapel, in the season opener for both six-man football programs last Friday night.
LC coach Andy Bates began his sixth season with another win, dealing visiting Willow Bend, 56-0.
The Lions (1-0) will host the normally-competitive Tyler H.E.A.T. (Home Educated Athletic Team, if you’re wondering) this Friday night, and then LC will head to Fannindel for LC’s first road game of the season on Sept. 11.
Against Willow Bend, Jonah Shepherd had a rushing touchdown, had a 15-yard pass, and on defense, an interception returned for a 28-yard touchdown to go with five tackles. He also finished with 27 rushing yards.
Also for LC, Darren Brown had two carries for 62 yards and two touchdowns, and six tackles on defense. Demarion Brown had two carries for 42 yards and a touchdown, and defensively, picked off a pass for a 33-yard interception return for a score.
DeQuincy Brown had two carries for 28 yards and a score, and a 15-yard catch. Jonathan Peery had 18 rushing yards and six tackles on defense. Tomas Giles had a 12-yard rushing touchdown.
Eddie Contreras went 4-of-8 in kicks after touchdowns, which in Texas six-man football count for two points each.
Bates singled out his defense, which held Willow Bend to negative yards (-18).
