Kilgore High School basketball teams each get another game before the Christmas holidays, as both have home games early in the week, and district play starts for the Lady Bulldogs.
Coach Jeff Coleman’s Bulldogs will host West Rusk Monday at noon, starting with junior varsity, varsity to follow. The Bulldogs were to play at Jacksonville on Friday evening, after the deadline for this print edition of the News Herald.
After Christmas, Kilgore visits Lindale on Tuesday, Dec. 29, and that’s the District 16-4A opener.
Going into that Jacksonville game, Kilgore was 7-2 on the season and winners of five of their last six games.
The KHS girls are scheduled to host Lindale on Tuesday, a 5 p.m. freshmen start, followed by JV and varsity. That’s actually the girls’ district opener.
The Lady Bulldogs, coached by Trushundra McGill, will take Christmas off, and then visit Marshall Tuesday night, Dec. 29.
Sabine: The Lady Cardinals had their very first loss of the season on Tuesday night, a 55-39 District 15-3A loss at Gladewater.
Maddie Furrh led Sabine with 13 points. Hailey Davis and Ally Gresham each had seven. Blaire Kaufman scored six points. Addy Gresham added four and Ashlynn Davis had two.
JaKiyah Bell and Hai’leigh Oliver each had 16 for Gladewater.
Coach Sara Cantrell’s Lady Cardinals (9-1, 1-1 in district play – their win came over Ore City last week) had an open date on Friday and will host Daingerfield in another district contest on Monday, starting at 5 p.m. with JV. Sabine’s girls also have a home game Tuesday, a non-district game against the Longview HEAT at 3:30 p.m., varsity-only.
Coach Colby Carr’s Sabine Cardinals also had an open date Friday. They’ll host Daingerfield on Tuesday at 5 p.m., JV first, varsity to follow, and that’s the district opener for Sabine’s boys.
