Kilgore basketball is getting into the ‘backs-against-the-wall’ territory.
Both KHS teams have played well, as a whole, this year, but both are 0-2 in District 16-4A play, coming into this week.
Coach Jeff Coleman’s Bulldogs were on the road on Tuesday at Bullard, and the Lady Bulldogs, coached by Trushundra McGill were to host Bullard, both after the print deadline for this issue of the News Herald. On Friday, it’ll be reversed, with the ‘Dogs at home against Henderson and the Lady ‘Dogs on the road.
At both sites, freshmen games start at 5, with junior varsity and varsity to follow.
Both teams lost to Chapel Hill on Friday. The Bulldogs got 13 points from C. Jay Ingram and nine from Isaac Hoberecht, but lost to Chapel Hill, 58-36.
Da’Marion VanZandt had five for Kilgore, and Jake Thompson and Davin Rider each had four.
Chapel Hill’s girls also had 58 in a win over Kilgore, 58-44, in the girls game at the CHHS campus. Kilgore got 12 another double-double from Miah Thomas: 12 points and 10 rebounds, and also two steals. Alexis T. Anderson also had 12 points, and grabbed 16 rebounds. She blocked two shots and had a steal.
Summer Hayden had eight, and Na’Kayla Hooper had five.
