Not many teams are hotter right now than coach Brian Hoberecht’s Kilgore College Rangers, who beat Lee College here at Masters Gymnasium Wednesday night for their eighth straight win.
And on the road at Paris Junior College, the Lady Rangers got a much-needed win, as well.
Tyron McMillian had 17 points and eight rebounds to lead the Rangers to a 92-73 win over Lee, giving the Rangers a 5-1 record in the Region XIV Conference. Justin Davis had 15 points off the bench for KC, whose eight-game winning streak (with a few non-conference games mixed in there) dating back to before the holiday break.
Rodrigue Andela had 13 points, and Cameron Gooden and Michael Thomas each added 12; Gooden had four assists and Andela, eight rebounds in the game. Thomas had three rebounds, three assists and three steals.
Tysen Banks had 10 points for KC, and added three rebounds, four assists and four steals. D’Rell Roberts had seven points and Stephan Morris had six. The loss overshadowed somewhat the effort by Lee’s Jackson Makoi, who led all scorers with 31 points.
The Rangers (14-2 overall) are on the road for the next two games. They’re at Blinn College in Brenham on Saturday, a 4 p.m. start, and then go to Athens to take on Trinity Valley next Wednesday, Jan. 15, a 7 p.m. start.
KC 94, Paris 87 (women): The Lady Rangers’ first conference game this season was an 81-80 home loss to Angelina, but overtime – double overtime, specifically – was more kind to KC on Wednesday night in Paris, as the Lady Rangers came home with an important conference win.
The victory moved KC to 2-2 in the conference standings. They’re 13-3 overall.
Statistics from the road game weren’t immediately available, but will be updated as soon as the News Herald secures them later today (Thursday).
The Lady Rangers are home Saturday against conference-leading Trinity Valley, a 2 p.m. tip-off, and then at Coastal Bend next Wednesday.
