It’s tremendously early, but the Kilgore College Lady Rangers have gotten the 2019-20 basketball season off to a great start, and the Rangers are back after opening in Oklahoma.
Coach Brian Hoberecht’s Rangers (1-1) were playing in a mini-tournament in Edmund, Okla., over the weekend, and were to host Louisiana Christian School for their home opener Tuesday night at Masters Gymnasium. The Rangers lost their opener, 72-71, to Snow College on Friday, then beat Odessa College, 70-63, on Saturday.
The Rangers are off a week, and then host Hill College next Tuesday night.
Coach Addie Lees’ Lady Rangers played a pair of games in the Kilgore Classic over the weekend, beating the Killeen Force, 76-42, on Friday night, and then topping Southwest Christian College, 84-56, on Saturday. They also beat Palo Alto College on Monday night, 94-30, in San Antonio, and were to play San Antonio College on Tuesday night.
KC’s ladies will be home against East Texas Baptist University’s junior varsity women’s team next Monday at 6 p.m.
Statistics weren’t yet available for the wins over Southwestern Christian or Palo Alto, but against Killeen, KC got 19 points two blocked shots, two assists and 10 rebounds from Sarah Matthews. McKenze Brown and Jada Hood each had 13 points; Hood had seven rebounds. And Annilia Dawn had nine points and five rebounds. Tara Kessner had a big game off the bench with 16 rebounds and eight points.
