Kilgore College’s Rangers were rude hosts over the weekend – not to the fans, but they weren’t accommodating on the floor to their two opponents.

The Rangers men’s basketball team ran their overall record to 8-2 with a pair of wins on Friday and Saturday over Grayson College and CYM Prep, respectively.

KC is back to the Region XIV Conference grind, though, as they’re home again tonight looking for their first conference win of the season. Coach Brian Hoberecht and company will take on Coastal Bend today at 5:30 p.m. here on campus at Masters Gymnasium.

The Lady Rangers, who were off completely over the weekend, are also home tonight in their Region XIV opener, hosting Angelina, a 7:30 p.m. tip-off.

KC 86, Grayson 77 (men): This was actually a rematch of a game played a few days earlier, but the outcome was the same. The Rangers won the first meeting by 10, 80-70.

KC actually trailed by three at the half this time, but ultimately bounced back from a 25-turnover night to get the win. D’Rell Roberts had 19 points for the Rangers. Cameron Gooden added in 18, and Tyron McMillian had 15. Rodrigue Andela continues a nice sophomore season. He had 10 rebounds and incredibly, blocked six shots.

The free-throw line performance by the Rangers was nothing to write home about, though: the Rangers hit just 24 of their 46 shots from the line.

Jihad Watson of Grayson had 24 points; teammate D.J. Thomas had 23.

KC 90, CYM Prep 83 (men): KC trailed in this one, too, due in large part to CYM hitting on target from three-point range. But ultimately, the Rangers sent them home packing.

The big gun of the night was Mike Lenoir of CYM Prep, who went nuts for 34 points and hit eight of his 15 shots from long distance.

Roberts and Gooden again led the Rangers, each with 17 points this time. Stephan Morris, Andela, Jeremy Lefort, Assane Ndiaye, and Michael Thomas each scored 10 for Kilgore, a high-scoring contest. Lefort also had 12 rebounds.

The Rangers face a Coastal Bend team tonight that’s also 0-1 in conference. CBC is 5-5 on the season to date, and have been off since early last week.

Looking ahead, Hoberecht’s Rangers visit Jacksonville College for another conference game on Saturday at 4 p.m., and then take off that long December holiday break. They won’t return to the court until Sunday, Dec. 29, against Houston Community College, a non-conference game.

Lady Rangers: Coach Addie Lees’ KC ladies have lost just once all year, and that was to top-three program Trinity Valley last week in a tournament in Midland. Before TVCC beat KC, the Lady Rangers had taken down a pair of nationally-ranked programs.

KC’s ladies haven’t played at home yet this season, but do tonight at 7:30. They take on Angelina, and then visit Blinn in Brenham on Saturday, a 2 p.m. tipoff.

The Lady Rangers are also home against Panola next Wednesday, Dec. 11, and then they, too, take the rest of the month off. They won’t be back in action until Jan. 1 at Bossier Parish.

Tonight’s opponent, Angelina, is 8-3, and this is also their conference opener.
