Kilgore’s playoff hopes took another blow Tuesday night with a home loss to Spring Hill, an area powerhouse was swept by an upstart, Overton lost for just the 10th time this season, and Sabine got a big district win.

All will be back in action Friday night; just read the individual capsules for their details.

Kilgore: Spring Hill swept the Lady Bulldogs on Tuesday, 25-18, 25-23, 25-20. Kilgore drops to 2-5 in District 16-4A with the loss, needing to be in the six-team district’s top four spots to make the UIL Class 4A playoffs once again this season.

The Lady ‘Dogs visit Cumberland Academy, one of their district wins in the first round, on Friday, a 4:30 p.m. varsity start in Tyler.

Maleah Thurmond had seven kills and two digs; Bryonne Brooks had six kills, three blocks and two digs; Catherine Dennis had 17 digs, two kills, four assists and a block; Brooke Couch had four kills, six digs, two aces and a block; Ashton Vallery had six assists, 10 digs, and an ace; Jazmine Vasquez had 15 digs and two aces; Alana Mumphrey had 10 assists and an ace; Fyndi Henry had 10 digs, a kill and an ace; Nawny Sifford had four digs; Summer Hayden-Epps had a kill and a dig; and Isabell Witt had a dig.

Upset: Henderson swept Bullard – the 19th-ranked team in the state in 4A, and the leaders of this district – 25-18, 25-23, 25-18 on Tuesday night in Henderson.

Emily Bochow had 16 kills and three blocks for the Lady Panthers, who normally win this district. It was Bullard’s first district loss – they’re 6-1 – but they could probably afford it, with only Lindale and maybe Spring Hill within striking distance.

The Lady Panthers, though, have likely lost their cushion and probably can’t afford another loss without risking their grip on the district lead. Kilgore isn’t really affected by this, but it does bring Bullard back to the pack a bit, a little bit of mystery with almost all of the second round of district play remaining.

Camille Freeman had 31 assists and eight digs for Henderson and Taylor Lybrand had 16 kills, eight digs, three blocks and two aces.

Overton: The Lady Mustangs have only 10 losses all season, and this was a battle, a five-set loss to Hawkins, 13-25, 25-21, 20-25, 26-24, 5-15.

Overton is still 21-10 overall, and 5-2 in District 19-2A. They’ll play at Carlisle at 4:30 on Friday.

Mary Fenter had 19 kills and 25 digs for OHS. Kayla Nobles had seven kills, a block and three digs. Avery Smith had two kills, 26 digs and three aces. Kaley McMillan had a kill, 22 assists and 15 digs. And Chloe Laws had three kills, two blocks, 33 digs and an ace.

Sabine: The Lady Cardinals, playing at home, swept Ore City, 25-6, 25-11, 25-7 on Tuesday night, in District 13-3A.

Sabine is 22-11 overall, 5-2 in district play, and that’s third right now. They’ll play at Gladewater at 4:30 on Friday, varsity-only.

Caitlyn Stewart had 20 kills and seven digs in the win for the Lady Cardinals. Cale Brown had nine kills and three digs. Maddie Furrh had six kills. Kathryn Dalby, Ella Roberts and Peyton Childress each had three kills; Roberts added three digs and Childress, five. Ally Gresham had 18 digs and two assists. Bella Shaw had six digs and Kaleigh Carney had three.
