The final preseason games for Kilgore High School’s soccer programs are this coming week, and the regular season begins next weekend.
Both Kilgore soccer teams have been regulars in the University Interscholastic League’s 4A state tournament in recent years, although only one KHS team has broken through so far to win a state title (the Bulldogs, in 2017).
The quest begins anew this week, as Kilgore finishes up its preseason schedule. Coach Todd BonDurant and the Lady Bulldogs will host Tyler Grace on Monday, a 1 p.m. junior varsity start here at R.E. St. John Memorial Stadium, with varsity to follow.
Then, the girls open the regular season at home next Friday, also a 1 p.m. JV start, against Nacogdoches. They visit Lufkin the next day, Saturday, Jan. 4, for an 11 a.m. start, and then compete in a tournament in Keller Jan. 9-11.
Coach Tom Wait’s Bulldogs host John Tyler this morning at R.E. St. John for the final preseason scrimmage, an 11 a.m. JV start and varsity to follow. They compete in Jacksonville in a tournament at the Tomato Bowl beginning next Thursday, Jan. 2, and then in a tournament in Palestine Jan. 9-11.
