The West Rusk High School Raiders had to sit idle the final Friday night of the regular season, and wait out their playoff fate.
They got the news they'd hoped for.
Gladewater beat Tatum in their District 8-3A, Division I game, meaning West Rusk gets into the playoffs with a 7-3 record.
Coach Nick Harrison's Raiders will take on Jefferson (8-2), the second-place team from 7-3A, DI, on Thursday night at 7 p.m. at Longview's Lobo Stadium.
Harrison is in his first season as head coach of the Raiders, replacing longtime coach John Frazier. Harrison was on Frazier's coaching staff prior to that, though.
Jefferson finished the regular season by beating Redwater, 41-7. The Bulldogs' two losses were to Hughes Springs, 29-28, and to Atlanta, 28-24. The 'Dogs have won two games since then.
The Raiders would love to get on a roll as they have in recent years past, like 2017, when they went three rounds deep and lost to Newton. West Rusk lost to Atlanta in the first round a year ago.
