When the Texas High School Baseball Coaches Association named their 2019 Class 4A all-state team, anyone who was paying attention probably figured the Kilgore Bulldogs would have at least one – after all, they were in the state’s final four in 4A, and finished ranked third in the state.

If that’s the case, they figured correctly.

Kilgore pitcher Chase Hampton, who just finished his junior season, was named to the THSBCA’s 4A all-state team, to the THSBCA’s 4A first-team as a pitcher.

Hampton was dominant. He finished with a 12-3 record, helped Kilgore win five playoff series on the way to the state tournament, and before that, another district championship. He pitched 85 1/3 innings, allowed 45 hits, 25 runs (19 earned), walked 34, and struck out 159. He finished with an ERA of 1.559.

Also, the KHS baseball booster club will host the team, parents, family, friends and fans next Tuesday, June 25, on the patio at the Back Porch restaurant here in Kilgore. It’ll start at 6 p.m. Chicken fried steak or grilled chicken are the entree choices.

For he public, a ticket is $12 per person.

If you’d like to attend, RSVP by calling (903) 330-1849.
