This is the final week of the 2019 season, and it’s the last chance for the Overton High School Mustangs football team to get into the win column.
Overton (0-9) hosts Simms Bowie (3-6) this Friday night at 7:30 p.m. at Coach Chester Roy Stadium. It’s been kind of a rough year for the Mustangs, who have upped their offensive scores the last couple of weeks, but still haven’t recorded a win.
Overton, coached by Justin Arnold, hosts a Bowie team that has an outside shot at the playoffs. The Pirates only have three wins this season, but two of them have been in the last two weeks, in District 10-2A, Division II play: they beat Maud on the road, 36-16, then followed that last week with a 38-22 win at home.
A Bowie win over Overton this Friday would be good enough to get them in.
Overton, unfortunately, can’t make the playoffs, but it would be nice to end the season on a high note. The Mustangs have lost 10 straight games dating back to last season; their last win was a 12-7 game against Maud on Nov. 2, 2018. They lost to Bowie, ironically, the next week, 47-20.
