Leverett’s Chapel needed a win over High Island last weekend to get into the playoffs, and the Lions got it. Now, much like West Rusk, LC waits.
Coach Andy Bates’ Lions beat High Island, 20-6, last Saturday to stamp their ticket into the UIL’s six-man football postseason. They’re off this week, though, a regularly-scheduled open date in the final week of the regular season. They’ll begin the playoffs next Thursday night at 7:30 in Mabank, but an official opponent isn’t set.
Millford and Avalon play Friday night, and LC will face the winner.
In the win over High Island, Dawson Blear went 12-of-23 for 157 yards and three touchdowns. Mikey Dennis had three catches for 36 yards, and two touchdowns. Alexis Chaves had 67 yards rushing on 11 carries, and caught three passes for 63 yards and a touchdown.
Jonah Shepherd had six catches for 53 yards and an interception, and De’Quincy Brown had three interceptions to lead the defense. Bates also recognized the defensive efforts of Shepherd, Chavez, Eric Burns, Darren Brown, and Carson White.
