It’s fun in the summertime now, but before long, it’ll be time for the boys of fall.
Football season is just around the corner: the first weekend of Friday night high school football where games actually count is August 27, just 41 days away. But practice begins way before that (August 2), and tickets will be on sale very soon.
Season tickets go on sale next Monday, July 26, for those Kilgore fans who had season tickets a year ago. The previous season ticket-holders have until August 13 to renew their ticket packages. This year, packages are $50 per set. That includes one ticket for each of the Bulldogs’ five home games this year. Those can be picked up between 9 a.m. and 4 p.m. at the KHS athletic office, now located in the transportation building in front of the gymnasium on campus.
The packages that aren’t renewed will go on sale to the public for the same price ($50 each) on August 16. They’ll be sold through August 27, at those same times.
Kilgore enters a bit of a new era this fall, with new head coach Clint Fuller. It’s been chronicled in the News Herald over the last couple of months, but former head coach and athletic director Mike Wood has elected to retire from coaching – Wood is still the athletic director, and in fact, helped lead the search that brough Fuller back to Kilgore.
Fuller’s father, Phil, was the defensive coordinator at Kilgore College for much of the 1980’s, and Fuller spent much of his childhood here. He was most recently the head coach at Pleasant Grove, where he helped the program win a state championship.
Fuller’s first game – and Kilgore’s first game of the 2021 season – will be here at R.E. St. John Memorial Stadium against Nacogdoches, on Friday, August 27.
The remainder of the schedule: Kilgore at Hallsville (Sept. 3), Pine Tree at Kilgore (homecoming, Sept. 10), Kilgore at Gladewater (Sept. 17), Palestine at Kilgore (Sept. 24), an open date Oct. 1, Kilgore at Mabank (Oct. 8), Chapel Hill at Kilgore (Oct. 15), Kilgore at Henderson (Oct. 22), Athens at Kilgore (Oct. 29) and Kilgore at Lindale in the regular season finale on Nov. 5.
The season ticket packages include a ticket for each of the home games against Nacogdoches, Pine Tree, Palestine, Chapel Hill and Athens.
