Two games, two wins, both at home, one a little closer than the other – such is life in Texas six-man high school football.
Another thing that’s life in Texas six-man: road trips, normally long ones. And coach Andy Bates and the Leverett’s Chapel Lions will take that 2-0 record on the road Friday night to an old foe, Fannindel, a 7:30 p.m. start.
The Lions blasted Willow Bend, including the UIL’s six-man mercy rule, in week one, and then last week, they upended the usually-talented Tyler HEAT (Home Educated Athletic Team), 37-24.
In that one, for LC, Jonah Shepherd had 133 yards passing and two scores, ran for another, returned a kick for a touchdown, and on defense, had 10 tackles. De’Quincy Brown had four catches for 103 yards and a touchdown, and Demarion Brown had 15 tackles, then had a touchdown run on offense.
As fate would have it, Fannindel’s Falcons are also 2-0, having blasted Fruitvale, 45-0, in week one, and Campbell, 52-6, in week two on Thursday night.
After this weekend, the Lions are back on the road again, visiting Trinidad next Friday night.
