Dear Editor,

In our time of sorrow, we would like to say thank you to everyone for the food, paper goods and visits, also the cards and money, which will be donated to the Wayland Hicks Memorial Music Scholarship Fund in their names.

Also, to all who sent the beautiful flowers and the over 800 who signed the book and about 200 who didn't get in at visitation, I say thank you for standing in line in the heat – some for hours and the over 900 who attended the funeral on a weekday, we say “what a tribute.''

We are so grateful for you caring so much. What would this world be like without family and friends?

May God bless each and every one of you.

Dan and Sarah Ann Hicks

and family

Dear Editor,

On behalf of the Lillie Russell Memorial Library, I would like to publicly thank the many generous sponsors of this year's annual Summer Reading program. Without the support of these sponsors, it would be very difficult to have a program that kids and families enjoy, and more importantly, a program that keeps kids motivated to read all summer long.

Studies show that children who read during the summer are better prepared for school when it resumes in the fall. That is the ultimate goal of the Summer Reading Program – to ensure that children have the necessary tools to succeed in school and life.

This year children and adults participated in the “Libraries Rock Summer Reading program.

In addition to reading, kids were able to participate in many fun programs, enjoyed fun hands-on science programs such as, “Professor Branius and “East Texas Gem and Mineral Society.

Other fun events throughout the summer included “Creature Teacher,'' “MiniEncounters Therapy Horse Show,'' “Tiger Creek“, and “Johnny Magic.

In all, more than 2,250 people attended the free programs at Lillie Russell Memorial Library this summer.

Of course, everything that makes the summer reading program so exciting and fun for kids takes money and sponsorship. Many businesses and organizations in Lindale and surrounding cities willingly came forward with

money and donations.

There are too many sponsors to mention in a single letter, but sincere gratitude goes out to each one for helping to bring the joy of reading to the children and adults of Smith and all surrounding counties through their plentiful contributions to the summer reading program.

The residents of Lindale and Hideaway are very lucky to live in such a generous community.

We hope to see you again next year at the Lillie Russell Memorial Library.

A special “thank you'' to our generous donors:
