AUSTIN — Shannon Carrie Harris, age 58, died of complications from cancer on the 10th of November, 2021, in Austin, Texas. She was the beloved wife of Steven Harris of Austin.
Shannon was born in Athens, Texas, and was the daughter of Carole and Neil Hunter. She was a first-generation college graduate, holding bachelor’s and master’s degrees from the University of Texas at Austin.
Her greatest joy was her family, including those who survive her: her husband Steven, son Joshua Harris and grandson Everett of Austin, son Wesley Harris, daughter-in-law Alicia, and grandson Asa of Crosby, Texas. She is also survived by her father, Neil Hunter, brother Todd Hunter and sister-in-law Sherri of Kilgore, Texas, as well as mother- and father-in-law Sue and Jim Harris of Athens, Texas. She was preceded in death by her mother Carole.
Shannon’s life passion was nature and the sustainment of our God-given natural environment. She held various career roles following this passion including the non-profit Texan by Nature as well as the University of Texas, eventually retiring as Director of Development at the Lady Bird Johnson Wildflower Center.
As a young United States Army officer wife, she and her family lived six years in Germany and Austria which had a life-changing impact on her. She made life-long friends in Europe and considered Salzburg, Austria, her second home.
Funeral services will be Tuesday, the 30th of November, at 4pm, at All Saints’ Episcopal Church in Austin. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to All Saints’ Episcopal Church, 209 W. 27th Street, Austin, Texas, 78705.
