Services for James L. Sanders, 64, of White Oak, will be 1 p.m. Friday, December 15, at Rader Funeral Home Chapel of Kilgore with Reverend David Banks officiating. Fireman‘s rites will follow at Lakeview Cemetery Mausoleum, Longview. Mr. Sanders died Monday, December 11, 2017 in White Oak.

He was born November 7, 1953 in Longview to Elton and Frances Sanders. James attended White Oak public schools and was a member of the 1972 graduating class. He loved fire fighting and joined the White Oak Volunteer Fire Department in 1972. He worked for Gregg County for a few years before beginning his career in 1977 as a Kilgore firefighter. James was very well respected by his peers and was an honest, truthful and dedicated firefighter before his retirement in 2010.

For several years James was a dozier operator for the Texas Forestry Service. In addition to fighting fires, James taught pump operations, fire stream, and wildland fire fighting at Kilgore College Fire. He taught pump maintenance at Texas A&M Municipal Fire School and was an instructor at Texas Eastman Fire School.

James is survived by his brother, Elton Sanders Jr. and his wife Nancy of White Oak; several cousins, and many fellow brothers and sisters firefighters.

The family will receive friends at Rader Funeral Home of Kilgore Thursday evening between 6-8 p.m.
