David Taylor

 

David Ferman Taylor, lovingly known as "Big Dave," passed away on November 20, 2018. David was born December 8, 1962, in Longview to the late J.F. (Curly) and Doris Taylor. He gave generously and never expected anything in return. He was dedicated to his career in law enforcement and his paramedic work.

David graduated from Kilgore High School in 1981 and furthered his education at Stephen F. Austin State University where he received his bachelor's degree in business and finance. Upon returning to Kilgore he began his career in public service with Kilgore EMS and as a reserve officer with Kilgore Police Department where he worked for 12 years.

In 2001, David began his career with the Gregg County Sheriff's Office where he served as a lieutenant for the next 16 years before taking medical retirement.

A Life Celebration service for David Ferman Taylor, 55, of Kilgore will be held Monday, November 26, at 11 o'clock in the morning in the sanctuary of First Baptist Church, 501 E. North Street, Kilgore, with Dr. Pete Freeman officiating. The family will receive friends for a time of visitation prior to service, beginning at 9:30. Interment will immediately follow in Lakeview Memorial Gardens.

He is survived by his sisters, Dr. Carolyn Collier of Panama City, Fla., Kathy Walton and her husband Tom of Victoria, Lou Gruver and her husband Gayle of New Braunsfels; stepson, Kaleb Brisendine and his wife Kaity and granddaughter Kaiya and future grandson Kruz Brisendine; and extended family and friends.

His legacy will continue on through the lives he touched through his work in public service. In lieu of customary remembrances, the family requests with gratitude that memorials be made to the Gregg County Peace Officers' Association attention Mary Bell, 101 East Methvin Street, Suite 559, Longview, Texas 75601.
