Sabine High School student honored by National Merit Scholarship program

Sabine High School student Maddie Horton has been named a commended student in the 2022 National Merit Scholarship Program.

Sabine High School student Maddie Horton has been named a commended student in the 2022 National Merit Scholarship Program. About 34,000 commended students throughout the nation are being recognized for their exceptional academic promise.

Horton is the daughter of Randall and Candace Horton. Horton has been the drum major for the Sabine High School band her junior and senior year. Her academic skills are reflected in her advanced coursework. She enjoys competing in Math UIL and was the state runner-up.

In her free time, Horton teaches piano lessons in her church’s worship band. After graduation, she plans to attend Stephen F. Austin State University to obtain a degree in music education for elementary schools.
