An Overton woman and three teenagers died Monday after their car pulled into the path of tractor-trailer in Smith County, the Texas Department of Public Safety said.

Troopers responded to a fatal crash at the intersection of FM 757 and FM 2767 about eight miles east of Tyler around 11:25 a.m. on Monday.

A preliminary investigation showed that a car driving south on FM 757 failed to yield the right of way and pulled into the path of a tractor-trailer traveling east on FM 2767.

The driver of the car, Juan Manuel Villanueva, 26, of Overton, was taken to UT Health Tyler in serious condition.

Sara Vasquez, 53, of Overton, a 13-year-old girl, a 15-year-old boy and a 17-year-old boy — all passengers in the car — were pronounced dead at the scene of the crash by Judge Andy Dunklin. Their bodies were taken to Lighthouse Mortuary in Tyler.

The driver of the truck-trailer, John Paul Wilkins, 53, of Gladewater, was taken to UT Health Tyler in serious condition.

The crash remains under investigation, DPS said.
