Overton High School will host its annual graduation ceremony at 7:30 p.m. Friday, May 29 at Coach Chester Roy Stadium on campus.

But there will have to be some precautions, due to coronavirus concerns.

Five tickets will be allotted to each graduating senior, for their family unit. Seating locations for each family will be determined by lottery, and everyone will be required to sit in that assigned area, according to an e-mail sent to the News Herald and other media outlets by Overton ISD, and OISD Superintendent Stephen DuBose.

“OISD and all of the Mustang family are so pleased that we will be able to honor our class of 2020 with a ceremony,” DuBose wrote in the e-mail. “We hope that everyone will be understanding of the required procedures as outlined.”

The graduation will be streamed live online for those not able to attend, and a video will be available online. Pictures will be taken, and also will be made available online.

It was also noted that everyone entering the stadium for the event must present a signed health attestation, provided by OISD, stating they don’t have symptoms compatible with the COVID-19 virus.

Seniors may pick up their tickets and the attestations in the drive-thru line on Monday, from 10 a.m. until noon, or from 5 p.m. until 7 p.m., or by making arrangements with Mrs. Bundrick or Mrs. Jackson for an alternative time. Gates will be opened at 7:15 the night of graduation. OISD is asking people to remain in their cars until the gates are opened.

Parking will be either in the pit parking lot, or the student lot located on Mustang Alley. Handicapped parking – with an official handicap designation – will be at the scoreboard at the end of the stadium, along Mustang Alley.

Graduates will park in the area between the crosswalk and the Mustang statue on Mustang Alley. No one will be allowed on campus during the ceremony other than graduates, their families and necessary employees.

No food or drink will be allowed on campus during the ceremony, other than the graduates, and only graduates and designated employees of OISD will be allowed in the gym or on the field.

Attendees should leave the OISD campus immediately following the ceremony. Graduates will leave after returning to the gym to pick up any personal belongings.
