A one-vehicle wreck Monday night south of Kilgore left a 15-year-old Overton girl dead and the 18-year-old driver hospitalized.

Texas Department of Public Safety troopers responded at 7:03 p.m. Monday to a wreck on County Road 165, about 3 miles south of Kilgore in Rusk County.

A preliminary investigation showed that the driver, Demarcus Keshaun Holsome, 18, of Reklaw was traveling south and approaching a left curve at an unsafe speed.

His car left the road to the right, causing him to overcorrect to the left. The car then went into a side skid, traveled across the road and into the east ditch, where it rolled onto its top.

Holsome was taken to UT-Health-Henderson in stable condition.

His passenger, Bagley Mahdessian, was taken to Christus Good Shepherd Medical Center-Longview, where she was later pronounced dead by Justice of the Peace Pct. 3 Talyna Carlson.
