Taking precautions due to coronavirus is going to change the way Kilgore independent School District’s registration process is conducted for the upcoming 2020-21 school year.
The normal KISD One-Stop Registration won’t be held this time, to avoid the large gathering and to protect students, their families and staff, but there obviously will be registration in these two forms: online, of course, between July 16 and July 30, or in person at your child’s campus between July 20 and July 30.
The site to go to in order to register online is the Skyward student live database site. Here is the link, although you can go to this story on kilgorenewsherald.com and simply click it: https://skyward.iscorp.com/scripts/wsisa.dll/WService=wsedukilgoreisdtx/fwemnu01.w. The login ID and the student’s password will be needed.
The first day of school for all campuses in the KISD system is Wednesday, Aug. 12.
Also on the Skyward family access site, parents and students can make course requests. To do so, after logging in, click “schedule” and “request courses for 2020-2021 in Kilgore HS.”
All changes, the KHS Facebook page notes, must be e-mailed to the school’s counselors by July 15. Course changes won’t be allowed from July 16-August 16.
At Kilgore Middle School, online registration also begins July 16, and they will have the campus open to provide assistance, for anyone who needs to register but doesn’t have internet or computer access beginning July 20 through July 30. Those hours will be 8 a.m. until 11 a.m. and 12:30 p.m. until 3 each business day during that time frame.
Eighth grade schedule and ID pick-up will be Wednesday, Aug. 5, from 8:30 a.m. until 11 a.m., or 1 p.m. until 3 p.m. Seventh grade schedule and ID pick-up will be the following day, Aug. 6, during those same times, and sixth grade schedule/ID pick-up will be Aug. 7, also at those same times.
There are a couple of big changes that have been noted in the News Herald over the last few months. Former KHS principal Charles Presley has taken a security position within the school district, and April Cox, the former Kilgore Middle School principal, has assumed the principal’s duties at KHS.
Replacing Cox as the new principal at KMS is Jennifer Gholson, the former assistant principal for seventh grade at KMS.
Joining Cox in leadership roles at KHS are senior assistant principal Lauren Thrasher, junior assistant principal Karla Square, sophomore class assistant principal Tim Banks, and freshman assistant principal Ronnie Garvin.
Schedule pick-up at KHS will be Aug. 7 from 8 a.m. until 4 p.m. for freshmen, and tours will be available if needed; for sophomores and juniors, schedule pick-up will be Aug. 10 – 8 a.m. until 10 a.m. for sophomores and noon until 4 p.m. for juniors. Senior schedule pick-up will be Aug. 11, from 8 until noon, and then an all-students schedule pick-up, for those who missed their day, will be Aug. 11, from noon until 4. School begins the next day.
