“Ability is what you’re capable of doing. Motivation determines what you do. Attitude determines how you do it.”

— Longtime college football coach Lou Holtz

LOTS OF THINGS going on this weekend downtown, from cruising today to parading tomorrow.

The Kilgore Police Department is inviting everyone to come out for a cruise night tonight, from 7 p.m. until 9 p.m., through downtown Kilgore.

The KPD posted the invitation on social media, and all are welcome, with no registration needed, as long as social distancing is maintained.

“We will utilize North Kilgore Street from East North Street all the way down to the Texan Theater and Main Street (north or south) from N. Kilgore,” KPD wrote, in their invitation. “This will spread everyone out over multiple blocks. There are some good locations downtown to get a meal or beverage, so come hungry. You are encouraged to drive around the downtown streets and make it an actual cruise night.”

For more on this, contact KPD, and keep a watch on their Facebook page.

TOMORROW, WE’RE HONORING THE Kilgore High School class of 2020 with a parade downtown, and even though that starts at 2, they’ll need seniors here before then.

Streets will close for this at 10 a.m., and participants can line up in alphabetical order, starting at 11.

The check-in point will be a booth at the corner of North Martin and East North streets, in order to get a number card, which you’ll place on the left side of your vehicle. All parade vehicles must enter there.

And all drivers and participants should be in their vehicles and ready to go by 1:30.

Anyone with questions may call the Kilgore Chamber of Commerce office at (903) 984-5022.

HERE’S HOPING EVERYONE is back to normal sooner rather than later. If you have a concern or a tip about the paper, I’d be willing to read it. Drop me an e-mail at mlucas@kilgorenewsherald.com, and I’ll do my best to write everyone back.

CONGRATULATIONS to all the KHS seniors – in fact, all the seniors, period – but to all those athletes who signed letters of intent this past week.

If you qualify in that group, and you haven’t seen your item in the News Herald’s sports section yet, it’s coming this week. Had to make a trip out of town, but I’ve got it covered.
