“Perseverance is not a long race; it is many short races one after the other.”

The Kilgore City Pool opens today at 1 p.m., just in time to help beat the heat! The pool will certainly help folks stay cool over the summer and renovations will continue at the pool house. Supply shortages slowed the renovation, but the city didn’t want Kilgoreites to have to wait any longer to splash into the summer. You can see updates at www.facebook.com/kilgorecitypool or contact pool staff at (903) 983-1650.
Kilgore will host a patriotic 4th of July celebration next weekend at Kilgore City Park. The 4th of July Extravaganza will include musical performances, food vendors, cold drinks and, of course, a fantastic fireworks finale. Set to take place from 5 to 10 p.m., the event is expected to draw large crowds and in an effort to help keep everyone cool, City of Kilgore announced both the Lazy S Splash Ranch at the top of the hill and the adjacent city pool will both be open until 9 p.m. with free admission to the pool all day.
The Kilgore Public Library is presenting Summer Story Times, a great way to get the kids out of the house and into a book. Attendees can enjoy a story reading, make new friends and take home an activity for the kids.
Story times are Fridays at 9:30 a.m. and Tuesdays at 4 p.m. for ages 2 to 5 years.
The library does not require masks to enter the building or attend events. Please be considerate of others and do not attend if sick.
Kilgore’s Bighead Creek MTB Trail will be getting some upgrades and new builds soon, and they’re looking for volunteers. Follow the mountain biking trail’s Facebook page for updates and posts for volunteer work days in the next couple of weeks: www.facebook.com/BigHeadCreekMTB.
