It’s National Library Week, and our own Kilgore Public Library is celebrating with activities and special events. All this week, patrons can check out a book and fill out a slip to win a T-shirt, enter a drawing for a library tote and meet library staff at Creekside Trail Friday, April 7 for a free coloring book and information about the upcoming summer reading program. Kilgore College Cosmetology will open up its services to the public beginning Tuesday, April 6 in Longview.

The cosmetology program at KC-Longview (located at 315 S. Center St.) offers haircuts, highlights, color, roller sets, manicures, pedicures, facials and much more at a discounted rate.

It also offers barbering services including haircuts, shaves and beard manicures.

Kilgore College Adult Education and Literacy is accepting applications for its 2021 Intensive College Readiness (ICR) program.

Classes will begin June 1 and will be held Mondays through Thursdays from 8:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. at KC-Longview for eight weeks.

The ICR program is a free course designed to help students become college-ready through intense and rigorous instruction in reading/writing, math and college knowledge/computer skills.

Books and other instructional material will be provided at no additional cost. The deadline to enroll is May 14.

Enrollment is restricted to those who plan to enroll at KC for the fall of 2021.

This program is open to students who are at least 18 years old and have completed high school with a GED or another Texas Certificate of High School Equivalency (TxCHSE).

Students who graduated with a traditional high school diploma must be at least 21 years old and must have graduated at least three years earlier.

Individuals also encouraged to attend are those who have taken the college placement test, Texas Success Initiative Assessment (TSIA), and need to make a higher score.
