The Kilgore Public Library’s “Friends of the Library” book sale begins this week, and you can fill up a bag with books for just $3. Books available for purchase include non-fiction, self-help, paperback novels, books on CD, large-print novels, kids’ books, fiction and novels & non-fiction in German. Sale hours are 9 a.m. to 5:45 p.m, Tuesday through Friday. Visit the library at 301 N. Henderson Blvd. today!

On Tuesday, June 1, the East Texas Food Bank kicked off their 17th Annual Summer Food Program across 24 communities sites in East Texas. The program provides free breakfast and lunch meals to children under 18.

ETFB has sites in Tyler, Whitehouse, Lindale, Mt. Pleasant, Gilmer, Hawkins, Longview, Kilgore, Marshall, Waskom, Jacksonville, Rusk, Mineola, Hawkins and Wills Point. The full list of sites, meals offered and service times can be found at www.EastTexasFoodBank.org/SummerFood.

To participate, families just need to show up. There is no need to register and no proof of age or income is required. Due to continued COVID-19 precautions, parents or guardians may also pick up meals without their children to eat off-site if they provide proof of school enrollment (report card, enrollment form or a note from school).

The Kilgore Area Chamber of Commerce hosts their annual Star Gala tomorrow evening at the Texan Theater, and the awards presentation is sure to be exciting. Keep an eye on the KNH website and our next edition for lists and photos of the award winners.

Kilgore College Career Services will host “Destination Graduation” for students who are preparing to graduate from KC.

The events are set for 10 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Wednesday, June 9, in the Watson Library on the Kilgore campus; and 10 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Tuesday, June 15, at KC-Longview in the Hendrix Building Computer Lab.

This will be a one-stop shop where students will be able to meet with an advisor to verify graduation, complete the application process and meet with bookstore representatives to order caps and gowns.
