“We humans have lost the wisdom of genuinely resting and relaxing. We worry too much. We don’t allow our bodies to heal, and we don’t allow our minds and hearts to heal.”

— Thich Nhat Hanh

Jack Stallard, Longview News-Journal sportswriter and beloved Kilgoreo, is hosting his Big Daddy’s Third Annual Birthday Walk to benefit the Kilgore College Food Pantry later this month.

The walk is set for Saturday, Feb. 27 from 7 to 10 a.m. and Sunday, Feb. 28 from 2 to 4 p.m. at the track beside R.E. St. John Memorial Stadium in Kilgore.

Stallard will be 55 on March 2, so the plan is to walk 55 miles (every lap by every person counts toward the total) and to haul in as much stuff as possible for the food pantry.

Everyone is invited to come walk with Stallard and to bring items for the food pantry. Here’s what the KC Food Pantry needs:

  • Canned meat
  • Canned fruit and veggies
  • Healthy snacks
  • Rice, pasta and sauces
  • Peanut butter and jellies
  • Ramen noodles
  • Soups
  • Shampoo
  • Shaving cream
  • Soaps
  • Toothpaste and tooth brushes
