Happy New Year, Kilgore! Today marks the beginning of a brand new year brimming with promise and hope. The last two years have brought many challenges, from an unexpected global pandemic to a record-setting snowstorm and much more. But we have made it out the other side and are now embarking on a fresh start. We wish you and yours all the best as we set off into 2022 to discover what it holds for us. May God bless Kilgore in this new year and may we all find love, harmony and happiness in the months ahead.

Interested in a seat on the Kilgore City Council? Applications for a seat on the May 7, 2022 ballot are available at Kilgore City Hall now. Places 1, 3 and 4 are subject to election in 2022. Applications may be filed Jan. 19 through Feb. 18. Pick up an application Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. by appointment only. Contact Rachel Rowe, city clerk, at (903) 984-5081.

The Kilgore Area Chamber of Commerce is seeking nominations for the 2022 Citizen of the Year, IPR (Innovation, Perseverance, Resiliency) Award, Minority Owned Business of the Year, Woman Owned Business of the Year, New Business of the Year, and the STAR (Success, Tradition, Achievements, and Relationships) Award.

If you know of a business or someone deserving of an award, submit a nomination letter stating reasons your nominee should be the recipient of the award. The nominations must be received by Jan. 21 and should be sent via email to jmccartney@kilgorechamber.com or mailed/delivered to Kilgore Chamber of Commerce, 1108 N. Kilgore Street, Kilgore TX 75662.

The balmy weather we’ve been enjoying lately isn’t predicted to last much longer. In fact, today may be the last day the warm temperatures, according to the Weather Channel. Expect things to get more wintry in the days ahead and trade in your shorts and flip-flops for a warm coat and scarf.
