As we move further into what has been a very unpredictable year, remember our local merchants and restaurants are counting on us to have a successful holiday season! Christmas is just around the corner and a dollar spent on holiday gifts or meals here in Kilgore is a dollar which goes to support the livelihoods of local business owners.
Big companies like Amazon can weather economic upsets much more readily than small business owners, so keep it as local as you can during this shopping season.
Gov. Greg Abbott and the Texas Division of Emergency Management are launching a COVID-19 Rapid Testing Pilot Program for front line workers at Texas small businesses, according to an article from NBC DFW Monday.
According to the Texas Division of Emergency Management, this program will help small businesses throughout the state conduct rapid tests on employees to mitigate the spread of COVID-19.
Through this pilot program, the Texas Division of Emergency Management will provide local Chamber of Commerce organizations with COVID-19 testing supplies that will be allocated to local small businesses that choose to participate in the program.
The Kilgore Improvement and Beautification Association will be conducting their annual judging of local Christmas lights Monday, Dec. 14 beginning at 5:30 p.m.
Like last year, awards will be granted in the following categories:
- Best Residential Lighting
- Best Commercial Lighting
- Best Lighting for Children’s Enjoyment
- Best Nativity Scene
- Best Neighborhood Lighting
- Best Door Lighting
- Special Lighting Award
