Members of Civic Garden Club recently launched their 2021-2022 club year, making it their 80th year since being organized in 1941.
Vice President Janel Garnett conducted the meeting in the absence of president Marilyn Martin. Hostesses were Lavada Thomas, Darlene Sanders and Tracie Gaut.
Garnett, who is yearbook chairman, distributed the new yearbooks and reviewed changes and upcoming programs. This year’s theme is “Perennials Through the Seasons,” emphasizing the gardener’s ability to have a colorful landscape all year long.
Treasurer Martha Clark presented the new budget, and it was unanimously adopted. The baking tip of the month was given by Robin Huxley. Announcements of upcoming events included participation again in Kilgore Police Department’s Blue Santa program, to be spearheaded by member Angela Burch.
Awards for horticulture specimens were announced by Kim Gore, awards chairman: Martha Clark, (3) 1st and (2) 2nd; Louise Raby, 4) 1st and (1) 2nd; Patty Sanders, (4) 1st; and Kim Gore, (4) 1st and (1) 2nd. Gore also received a 1st for her large design titled “Less is More.”
Appreciation was extended to Diana Ponder for the use of the Ponder Party House for monthly meetings. The raffle winner was Robin Huskey.
