Boonies, a Kilgore restaurant, announced it was in danger of closing.

Kilgore business officials are rallying around a local restaurant considering closing their doors.

Boonies, a breakfast and brunch restaurant at 107 N. Kilgore St. in downtown Kilgore, posted a notice on their Facebook page late Thursday that they would be closing. The restaurant later posted, after speaking with the owners, that they would take the week to see if business picked up.

“With 3 new franchises entering town and 4th just right around the corner it has put us in a position to make a heartbreaking decision that we truly do not want to make but we’re having to put our feeling aside and make a business decision,” the restaurant posted before announcing it would stay open.

The restaurant posted Friday morning that “After a long hard night and much thought we have spoken with the owners and decided we will open for at least one more week and hopefully during this time we can turn things around.”

The Kilgore Area Chamber of Commerce, on Facebook, encouraged residents to support local restaurants.

“If you have never tried Boonies, then we urge you to do so now,” the chamber posted. “We do NOT want to lose another restaurant in our beautiful historic downtown Kilgore. Let’s make sure they know we love their food, coffee and salad bar. We can do this Kilgore. Let’s go.”
