CORRECTION: An earlier version of this article incorrectly described Rossum’s promotion to chief. In actuality, Rossum has been promoted to KFD Fire Captain.

Kilgore Fire Department has named Jovane Rossum as the new department Fire Captain.

Interim Fire Chief Mark Henderson made the announcement of Rossum’s promotion from Driver/Engineer to Captain at Tuesday’s City Council meeting, and Rossum’s family and more than a dozen fellow firefighters attended in support.

“Jovane has been with the department for seven years now,” Henderson said, noting Rossum is an Air Force veteran, Kilgore graduate and head of the KFD Honor Guard, which conducts flag ceremonies at a variety of events locally and across the state.

“We’re very proud of Jovane. Jovane has been one of my closer friends during the time I’ve worked here and I couldn’t be more proud of him tonight,” Henderson said.

Rossum’s wife Jenee had the honor of pinning the new captain’s badge to her husband’s uniform as all in attendance rose from their seats for a standing ovation.
