Kilgore ISD ag students and teachers hosted their annual FFA Project Show and Sale Friday and Saturday, drawing crowds to the Leon Gibson Memorial Ag Farm for food, fun and the display of their livestock and ag mechanics projects.
“A huge thank you to everyone who made this year’s Kilgore FFA Project Show and Sale a success,” said Carey Murphy, Kilgore High School counselor and advisor to the FFA program.
“Ms. Macie Wagstaff — KHS Ag teacher, the ag students, the parents all worked so hard to make this year’s show come together. We are especially thankful to those members of our community who continue to support the students in agriculture. Without the support of the buyers, our students would not be able have these projects. The money spent at our auction goes to the student and is used to purchase the next year’s project or put into savings for their college education.”
Students set up their projects and prepared their animals for the show Friday evening before the main event on Saturday, when judges assessed the animal and Ag Mechanics projects to declare winners in each category.
During the main event, students displayed their projects for judges and spectators. This was followed by a live auction when the crowd of dozens was given a chance to place bids on the projects.
“The crowd was a little light this year, we are hoping that was due to the weather, but we will continue to take add-on money for a week or so,” Murphy said.
